The Civil War was an event that my class studied. The class learned about events leading up to the Civil War, activities during the War, and Reconstruction. Students did much research to learn more about specific battles, people, and events. As part of a culminating project on the Civil War, the class was divided into two sides. One side became writers for the South and the other for the North. We discussed parts of a newspaper and what articles a paper from the 1860's might contain. After each group brainstormed possibilities for their paper, the research and writings began. Each side chose a name for their paper and a date. The students typed and printed the final paper and it had three columns. Not included in the paper but as an art project is a sample of some of the creative artists in the class depicting events in the 1860's.
