Grand Island was first incorporated as a city in 1872.  Union Pacific was the railroad that G.I. grew up around.  Sugar beets were first introduced, as a crop, to Nebraska in 1890.  The first church was a Catholic Church, and the first school was located on Second Street.  In 1873, the Hall County Court House was built.
